Hi everyone! Rachael and Sam, here. This sister/brother duo is honored to be running the NYC Marathon in 2023 to raise funds for GO2 for Lung Cancer.

In 2006, we received the unimaginable news that our grandma, Mary, had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. For someone so healthy, active, and full of energy, it seemed truly impossible. To us she was Mema, or simply the most fun, loving, and beautiful person. To so many others, as a nurse and teacher, she was an incredible source of guidance and support. The people that knew her were the luckiest.

Mema fought hard against her disease for a year and eventually lost that battle at the young age of 62. It’s maddening thinking about all the moments she’s missed — weddings, college graduations, family dinners — and knowing that if only there had been a cure, she might still be here today. In an effort to spread awareness, we are hopeful that one day, other families won’t have to go through the same grief of losing their loved one.
