My GO2 Foundation Walk/Run Fundraising Page
I’m signed up with Team USC for the lung cancer 5K this Sunday to support funding and research.
As you all have been following my mom’s lung cancer journey, you know it’s had a lot of ups and downs along the way, but none of it would have been made possible without the funding for the trial drugs that have been changing the game.
When mom was diagnosed, you shouldn’t go down the google rabbit hole, but I did and it was horrific. If we listened to the statistics online, the prognosis was 3% survival. One of the reasons we chose a university hospital was because we believe in trial drugs and know firsthand they can save lives. Mom’s trial drug was approved by the FDA in May and was the first major breakthrough in many years for small cell lung cancer. 40% of people who failed up to 2 other lines of treatment were cured. Not just in remission, but cured. This drug has been a game changer and just today, the doctor told mom with being 16 months from diagnosis, she’s had no progressive of the disease. Typically it would come back aggressively in 3-6 months.
I’m looking to raise $250 to contribute my part to the already $86,000+ raised from the other teams. We know how important this funding is for further research and trials.
I’ll be joining mom’s oncologist, lung care coordinator, and trial coordinator along with other staff from USC on Sunday for this walk.
If you’ve made it this far in my post, thank you for reading and for your support since mom’s diagnosis.
